The Schmidt Brothers Mill built a sawmill and logging operation in 1922 to exploit the abundant timber in the region. This expansive location included dwellings for approximately 20 households, a mill office, a post office, a cook shack, a bunk house for unmarried men, a gas pump house, a public well house, as well as other minor structures, along with a large area for drying lumber. The mill functioned nonstop at this site for half a century.

Subsequently, the land became marshland and grazing land for the previous four decades until the Deyo family donated the land. The Deyo Dam was finished in 2011, forming a 55-acre reservoir, and the campground was finished in 2013.
